Cheney Train Depot Preservation Effort
As part of our mission to engage the community in the preservation of historic sites, we are helping to
raise awareness of the potential loss of the Cheney train depot.
The Northern Pacific Railway depot, built in 1927, is a unique design in the northwest and is connected to one of Cheney’s famous son’s, former Governor  Clarence D. Martin.
Burlington Railroad has informed the city that the depot is surplus property and eligible for demolition.  They have offered the building up to any group or entity as long as it is moved from railroad property.  The depot sits between two active tracks on Burlington’s private property, and the railroad company, reasonably does not want the liability of public access.
