Looking Back – November 1962

In the election of 1962, the citizens of Cheney finally passed the bond issue to finance the building of the long awaited community swimming pool.  There had been a pool at the Normal School/college since Showalter Hall was completed, and later a pool was located in the Memorial Field House, but they were not generally available to the public.         Citizens groups had been lobbying for a public community swimming pool since the 1920s, but finally a five year collaborative effort of clubs and organizations brought success.
