Toward the bottom of the trunk I found the black wool suit formal jacket and vest that was part of a three-piece wedding suit belonging to William H. Kramer (Cramer) when he married Rachel Minerva Hendricks in Indiana, December 28, 1873.  The jacket has a two-button front closure, with no exterior pockets.  The back has two pleats with buttons at waist and a single back center seam vent.  It is fully lined with cotton and faille, the upper front bodice and under arm area is quilted.  There is one inside slash breast pocket.  Interestingly, there are two finished pocket-like gaps at in the lining at the back.  No ...

Charles A. Ratcliffe, 1905 Here is a black wool crepe man's suit jacket belonging to Charles A. Ratcliffe.   This long, thigh length jacket is shaped in at the waist and out over the hips in a style of the 1880s or 1890s.   Three of the four front buttons have working buttonholes; the bottom button has a non-working, decorative buttonhole.  At the top of the right lapel is a small open buttonhole, perhaps for a flower?  At the back are two pleats is the skirt portion of the jacket with decorative buttons at their top.  The center back seam has a vent opening from waist to hem.   The outside of the ...

Next out of the trunk is this heavy (!) black/charcoal, unlined, double breasted thigh-length (or at least over-the-bum-length) boiled wool coat with shawl collar, two breast vertical leather-welt pockets and two horizontal front leather-welt pockets, 2.5' leather sleeve end, and 2-button back belt.  The back length from collar seam to hem 36."  The leather trimming looks to me as protection for areas of wear on a work, or field, coat. The coat belonged to William J.
