Collection Spotlight: Edison Phonograph

Last year we received a number of music players and records. We are delighted to add a new member to our home entertainment collection from Dr. Peter Hansen. Here is a Edison “Diamond Disc” phonograph from about 1914. With it’s 51-inch tall Chippendale style cabinet, this beauty was originally priced at $250. The lower cabinet has two drawers filled with original Edison phonograph discs.  

80th Birthday – 1935 News – Music Contest

From the Cheney Free Press of 1935 A local music contest will be held Tuesday, March 26 at 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium. By vote of the audience, 1st 2nd 3rd place for the most pleasing solo performance will be awarded. The entries  are: Barbara Stronach, violin; Benny Holladay, saxophone; Mildred Matney and Dorothy Carr, piano; Theresa Hawk, soprano; Louise Hodge, mezzo soprano; Kathleen Ryan, alto; Kenneth Bahme, tenor; Kent Sooy, baritone; and Thornton Young, bass.
